Shipwreck and scuba diving, among the top things to do in Palawan (Coron)

An epic adventure itinerary for your holiday getaway is a book away with Coron, Palawan tour package! The place is famous as one of the most beautiful islands in the world and top tourist destinations in the Philippines. It houses several World War II shipwrecks, white sand beaches, and inland attractions. Not only does Coron exhibit magnificent natural wonders, but it also showcases hospitality traits among the locals. Tourists also admire how business owners promote responsible tourism as they provide services to travelers.

Without further ado, I share you some activities you can do on Coron vacation.

  1. SCUBA DIVING The island is a haven of breathtaking coral gardens, which you can only discover by plunging into the blue water. Several adventurers take the opportunity to explore the underwaters of Siete Pecados, and Dimanglet reef, among others.

Siete Pecados is one of the marine parks that continues to attract travelers. It is more or less a fifteen-minute boat ride from Coron town. The enchanting tourist destination consists of seven small rocky islets. For beginners (like me,) it is perfect for scuba diving and even snorkeling. Amateurs who try discovering the underseas are only allowed until 10 meters in depth. Within that reach, I am amazed by the sea creatures enjoying life beneath the waves. There are eye-catching sea fans and table corals; spreading under the vast ocean of Coron. As I let my eyes wander, I saw various colorful groups of fish coming from different directions, such as the angel, trigger, red snapper, and damselfish —they are lovable.
Meanwhile, the Dimanglet reef is equally as vibrant as the aquamarine of Siete Pecados. It was my chance to spot a variety of sea life seems to be celebrating underneath, like a school of yellow tail fusilier fish and colorful parrotfish. As we submerged for about six meters, we saw a barracuda fish freely swimming with other underwater vertebrates. What also stuns me is the sea turtle wandering just before our eyes and crossing through some of the picturesque corals on the seabed. Indeed, you should add “Discover Scuba Diving” (DSD) into your itinerary when visiting the island. SkyLodge, a famous mountain resort, which is also a Coron diving center, offers DSD to first time divers. Check the rates here https://www.skylodgeresort.com.ph/
  1. SHIPWRECK DIVING
Coron is one of the best shipwreck diving spots in Southeast Asia. Local and international divers, who are advanced and PADI-certified, are flocking in and out of Coron to experience the extraordinary World War II shipwrecks submerged in the vast ocean of the island. Tourists who descended through the deep share different stories that are catchy to some adventurers who want to add thrill to their Palawan escapade. History says that the sunken warships are the result of the attack on the Japanese by the US Navy aircraft in the World War II era. The depth of the submerged wrecks is about ten to 30 meters. If you are hesitant to go deeper at twenty to thirty meters, you can explore wartime ships sunken in a shallow area or near the coastline suitable for snorkeling. These are the Lusong gunboat and East Tangat. The latter showcases vibrant seabed inhabitants, which are vividly visible using goggles. We enjoyed every as we passed by the tip of the Lusong gunboat pointed outward at the surface. Towards the seashores are fish and coral reefs nestled at the white sand seabed that is attractive to everyone. The following are the identified historical shipwrecks that you can dive into and their respective estimated depths:
  1. Lusong Gunboat – 5 to 15 meters
  2. East Tangat (Tirukaze Maru) – 3 to 22 meters
  3. Skeleton shipwreck – 5 to 22 meters
  4. Irako Maru – 34 (deck) to 45 (seabed) meters
  5. Akitsushima Maru – 22 to 35 meters
  6. Olympia Maru – 30 meters
  7. Okikawa Maru – 10 to 26 meters
  8. Morazan Maru – 25 meters
  9. Kogyo Maru (Ekkai Maru) – 22 to 36 meters
  10. Kyokuzan Maru (Busuanga) – 20 to 39 meters meters
  11. Nanshin Maru (Black Island Wreck) – 21 to 32 meters
